Lauren Hom, The Seaport, NYC 2024
Artist Bio: Lauren Hom is a designer, lettering artist, and muralist. An "artist with a business brain," she’s best known for turning her clever passion projects into thriving design businesses thanks to the power of the internet. Over the past decade, Lauren has created work for clients like Vans, Target, Google, and Adobe. She loves sharing her knowledge with fellow creatives through her blog and online courses. Lauren recently attended culinary school to expand her creative skill set and explore the intersection of graphic arts and culinary arts. When she's not furiously working to meet a deadline because she procrastinated as usual, you can find her experimenting in the kitchen.
Artist Statement: My art is usually uplifting and bright because that’s the role it’s played in my life: a space for joy, connecting with myself, and feeling at ease. In addition, art has always given me a safe space to hide, regulate my emotions, and have a bit of respite from the chaos of day-to-day life. The mural I painted for YANAM is a reflection of these themes, which all relate to taking care of mental health. Since I knew my mural was first to be visible from the street, I used bold yet approachable lettering containing lots of fine details to call out to viewers and invite them to look more closely. The intricate line work and stars attempt to capture the intangible yet undeniable energy that connects us all and how our words and actions can touch others like YANAM does with its messaging.
